I am not sure if it has been mentioned already, but POET's news latest release speaks of "POET's debut in the semiconductor industry".
When pondering where exactly POET has its debut, we can clearly rule out the "semiconductor" part of "semiconductor industry". Remaining is the "industry" part.
Now, this is interesting! What do you think would qualify as a debut in industry? Let's consider our open options:
- Would reaching the 100 nm target do? No, it wouldn't. Achieving this goal would be great, of course, but it would still belong to the semiconductor part, not to the industry part.
- What about the TDK documentation? Aside from the fact that this is not really an open option anymore, I think it would come closer to industry, because it is meant for industry. However, as long as no one uses the TDK documentation to actually fabricate POET chips industrially, we don't have a debut in industry.
- And the Pellegrino Report 2.0? I'd say, the report is neither semiconductor nor industry. We are longing for the report, because we'd like to know what our pet, em, POET is worth – sure. But it is no debut in industry. We had a Pellegrino Report 1.0, and it wasn't.
- Do we have any alternatives left? Oh, yes, that thing called partnership. Since POET Technologies will produce chips only in its lab, but not on industry scale. However, an industry partner would do just that. Consequently, a partnership would be the only way for POET to have a debut in industry.
If you follow this reasoning, you might agree that in order to have its debut in semiconductor industry, POET will definitely present its partner at the Empire Club event. Frankly, I would be disappointed by anything less.
When a new play debuts at the stage, the main actor is well-prepared. He and his partner have had many, many rehearsals for weeks and months to prepare for the great day. Nobody has seen them acting together yet. But now the day has come. The audience is there. The curtain opens. The main actor and his partner are standing right in the spotlight, visible to the world. And then the play begins ...
