Yes, Kamsin, if there were something similar to what POET can do, it would have either been detected by the smart people here, or it would be somewhere in a hidden lab and nowhere near where POET is today, i.e. production-ready and going for its debut in the semiconductor industry.
What could the potential be worth? Well, three years ago the Pellegrino Report 1.0 said one billion dollars. Now Pellegrino & Associates are doing a second valuation (Pellegrino Report 2.0) which will probably result in a multi-billion dollars range, because a) much more vertical markets (= potential) have been identified, and b) the silicon-based semiconductor industry is in dire need for overcoming silicon's limitations and extending Moore's Law – this need is much more pressing today than three years ago. Plus c) identifying future applications for the integration of electrical and optical elements in the same chip, or, as Copetti puts it, "beyond just electronics, beyond just optics". Plus d) research and development on the quantum computing stuff.
