Copetti said that because he could tell after Taylor started that it was far too technical by looking at the crowd. Therefore he tried to make everyone feel better that this is extremely technical stuff that Taylor is talking about and that's why it's hard to understand. You always make the joke to make everyone feel like you are with them.
