Silicon never had the chance to make the giant leap because the manufacturing techniques had to be developed.

Because POET will use those manufacturing techniques and won't be burdened with their development, it could, theoretically, make it to 50x faster, but why bother? It's bye-bye silicon at 20x and provides the revenue to develop faster nodes.
