CAinPlap: I believe solar should someday be a major part of our power supply. Was a little sad when we had to sell our solar assets.

Solar is useful only when the sun happens to shine and then only if there is a corresponding demand, e.g. by air conditioners which are typically needed when the sun is shining.

Germany is showing what the results of too much solar and wind are:

• soaring CO2 emissions (by backup power plants),
• soaring electricity prices by replacing a functioning electricity market by a centrally planned economy,
• declining grid stability.

CO2 emissions could have been avoided by more nuclear, but Germany regrettably goes into the opposite direction. However, you can't do away with both nuclear and fossil fuels! Ontario has done a much better energy transition producing clean electricity by using a mix of nuclear, hydro, wind and natural gas. Ontario decommissioned its last coal-fired power plant at the beginning of this year.
