*Not sure how you came to this conclusion about the 100nm range being a disappointment and the move to 40nm.

I thought the move to 40nm was because it is an ideal platform for power- and price-sensitive applications, such as mobile and wireless applications with flexible mixed-technology options for RF, low voltage and automotive. (Globalfoundries)
