A few minutes ago, I was asked a question regarding exposure, publicity, and media response.

In a nutshell....

A news release is made public, containing something like a groundbreaking discovery, naming a company in conjunction with a larger more prominent company, or an important personnel move et al.

The origin industry of the subject matter picks up the news and deseminates using social media, trade publications, and to a lesser degree, main stream media. If, in the case of a prominent name company, the main stream media has enough affiliates or subsidiary news feeds picking it up, your mania could fundamentally begin there.

Time is a player here, there could be a week or more up to a month in delayed reaction. Assume the company involved has a stock price and volume surge which will bring in further interest, in this case, from the financial sector. If its large enough, main stream media, such as a CNN or CBC Newsworld will take time for interception, absorbtion and allocation. In time, as the following goes, more and more will become aware of the news and of the companies involved.

Within a short period of time, the global village will see the story and its many side stories and off shoots. Trending on social media will foretell he strength and the legs the news shall have.

One minute to one month and everything in between, the gravity and ferocity will drive the fire.

A good case study, for instance is the Alibab IPO story.
