Its a new day and time to draw a line under the emotional part of the 'debate' on lasers.
Apparently, when Einstein was grappling with his thoughts on the theory of relativity, he imagined himself travelling through the universe sitting on a particle of light to determine what effects other objects he encounters on his journey would have on his progress. My point is that you have to simplify things in order to understand them. Hence DNWL's very successful posts to.explain some of physics and chemistry behind POET.
We are all at some point going fail to grasp the cosequences of this amazing technology even if we understand the science. Hence the value of the combining of many minds on this 'usually' very civilised board.
One thought that bothers me is that it is illogical to imagine that POET will not have any competition. There will be compeditors but what we must not do is to allow fear tò paralyse action. Here I turn to the SAS's motto: 'WHO DARES WINS'.
GT has developed a unique set of tools and a process that places combinations of these tools on a single 'chip' using the advantages of lll -V group of elements that combines the advantages of the speed of light with electricity. The process uses the same manufacturing toolset as currently available to 'chip' fabricators.
Here's the nub of my attempt to simplify the fear factor of competition. Whilst others may produce a similar tool, ask the question: Does it combine tools on a single die or is it a hybrid solution.
