Message: Use of English

Firstly, let me wish all contributors to this forum a happy new year. I am also of the view it is likely to be a prosperous one, if we continue to be patient.

Secondly, I am going to labour several points to address issues raised since my last post. I was told about POET more than 3 years ago when my nephew told various members of my family about the company and what it did. I spent some time reading about it and discussed it. I concluded it is clever, revolutionary and required urgently by the microelectronic industry. On this basis, I bought shares and have not regretted doing so on any occasion. As time passes, I have become increasingly convinced of its strengths and the more I read the greater that conviction.

Thirdly, because of the nature of my former employment (I was once an orthopaedic surgeon) I spent many years preparing medical reports, I still do a few, for the victims of accidents acting for both Claimant’s and Defendants. I have often given evidence in court and to give you some flavour of that experience, I have prepared more than 10,000 reports in my career – I know this because they are all recorded on an a Microsoft Access Database and obtaining such information is easy.

This experience has, over the years, taught me to be careful in the use of English. Put your thoughts in paragraphs, make a beginning, middle and end, avoid long words, stick to as many Anglo-Saxon words as possible (English has the largest vocabulary of any language currently in use because of its international background and has happily taken other peoples words and use them, this includes, many European languages, Indian, Latin, Greek and many others). I have learned to be careful in choosing terms and regard it an imperative to be precise about what is a fact and what is conjecture or opinion. In terms of POET, I categorise what is a fact by simply stating it and when conjecture use words such as: possible; probable; likely; unlikely, highly likely etc. to indicate a conjecture and to give a feeling of the strength of any conviction. I also hasten to add that the great strength of this forum is the very varied and wide experience of many of the contributors which, to me, is very reassuring.

Most of what we know about POET is based on Geoff Taylor’s output which is repeated in information such as the corporate overview. What is stated in my last post is well known, though it can be difficult to bring it together in a simple, understandable view. Consequently, I believe it is fact that the PET processor is cheaper to make, faster than anything else, uses significantly less power and can be developed further when compared with the best Silicon processors. Additionally, it can include components on a chip that Silicon cannot. And can transfer its information at light speed. To me this is not just clever but revolutionary, I remain convinced there is no obvious competitor on a market that is clearly showing distress signs as Silicon reaches the end of a now very expensive road.

Thus, if I put this all together, I have to guess its market effect and so I use conjecture. I think 2015 is likely to see us prosper. I can’t say 2015 will see us prosper because it is not fact. For those among us who have invested but seem unconvinced they will prosper, I think it is highly likely you’re wrong. How much you will prosper I do now know, I think it is likely to be considerably (10 – 20 times the current share price within 2 years from this date is my conjecture). So, as not finish on a closed bracket, please enjoy a Whisky tonight and remain calm, I certainly will.

David
