Aiming to become the global leader in chip-scale photonic solutions by deploying Optical Interposer technology to enable the seamless integration of electronics and photonics for a broad range of vertical market applications
Message: Re: 40 nm - Steps to NRE
In consideration to CC reply to Junkers87
“As so many of POET’s activities happen in stages and some stages as they advance will lead to revenues once critical mass is reached. Unfortunately only an NRE paying customer truly has the right to determine how much progress is enough to justify revenues.”
I thought it may be helpful to layout my understanding of the stages to NRE. I believe CC response highlights that revenue could occur at any point through these steps. Info taken from the CP.
Step 1 – Produce PDK (your design rules and parameters)
Synopsys Sentaurus Process and Device TCAD software is used to accelerate development of a POET PDK for technology transfers to potential manufacturing partners. Milestone Q1 2015, PET foundation PDK v1
Step 2 – Enable you foundry to manufacture
Milestone Jan 2015 3rdParty Foundry 40/100nm transfer. Definition: Bring up critical layers manufacturing capability in external foundry. Accelerates completion of development and optimization learning cycles on 100 and 40nm structures. Also enables more complex test structures.
Interesting reading on critical layers manufacturing, http://www.technologyreview.com/news/424676/tomorrows-transistor-built-atom-by-atom/
Step 3 – Manufacture demonstration model
Milestone Q1 2015 - Electrical 100nm ring oscillator. Demonstration vehicle for high speed performance and power at 100nm process node. Reference standard to compare to Silicon CMOS.
Step 4 – Revenue
Market Leaders NRE - Industry leaders in specific markets to buy exclusivity rights, Lock in POET IP keeping their competition out from using POET IP
Direct Foundry NRE - Paid by foundries for POET to transfer and enable their foundry with PET/POET flow. Replaces R&D $$$ they would have spent on developing this capability in-house
