Jackthebear: If this is not with the aid of POET ,then we have competition.

We surely will have competition, because 40 nm PET will be in the same order of magnitude as 16/14 nm silicon.

However, we have a decent cost advantage since we can produce on old machinery, while the TSMCs of the world have invested billions and billions into new equipment and new fabs to support their small silicon node sizes.

And with PET being followed by full POET, we'll have the opto-electrical integration. Oh, and of course there's the analog-digital integration, making it possible to replace several chips by just one. And we have those new POET devices ("beyond transistors") chip designers still have to discover and ponder what to make out of them. Quite likely their efforts will result in innovative CPU architectures going beyond what a transistors-only silicon-based design could offer.

And we can still scale further down …
