dash> what size chip would be required to fit into an iWatch
about an inch-and-a-third square, or therabouts.
it's already known, they use the S1 chip for the 1st generation.
this is what it looks like
There is NOTHING innovative about the S1 chip (imo).
It is not a system-on-chip like most phones have, it's a System-in-Package. A simplified explanation would be that it's a collection of disparate chips (CPU, mobile DRAM, NAND flash, I/O, radio and power IC's) in a convenient package.
The iWatch SiP package (assembly provided by ASE, I think) is what you might consider to be a bigger "chip complex".
That's it.
The fact that there's such a variety of sensors and special-purpose chips, wireless connectivity, and etc. other various hardware blocks screams to anybody that while it may be feature rich, it's intrinsically going to be a complete power hog, simply because of silicon constraints.
apparently, this (LOL!) is how long its "19-hour" battery actually lasts.
result?
myself?
I guess I'm old-fashioned, but I think I'll wait for gen2 or gen3 before I decide whether to put away the Breitlings.
