I spoke to City Investors last night but was holding back for them to confirm my report, not wanting to tread on toes but given that treborj much has already published much of this I'll add what I gleaned.
Andrew Keen is the chap in the yellow tie by the way.
It would appear that the conference was not the only European meeting, apparently the POET team had flown in from Switzerland. As regards attendees (no names no pack drill as we say in the British Army) they are described as ‘high worth city individuals, including some ex-fund managers and city professionals.’
I gained the impression that the POET team may revisit London in a month or so.
The Video was released on the You Tube without POET (PTI) vetting. The format of the table with SG and MW at the screen end and PC and AM at the other end forced the camera to pan, whereas normally just the presentation and screen is shown in videos. We thus were able to view attendees, some of those faces will be known in City Circles – any village people out there who canidentify them?
Any gaps in the video were deliberate edits to remove coughs and other extraneous noises and not information being edited out. My contact was particularly impressed by the team particularly Adjt who was described as charming.
For me the real news was the confident manner that PC and AM promoted the fact that the trigger is pulled by the achievement of the 100nm Ring Oscillator and VCSEL. The conversation re ‘duck lined’ up by PC emphasised that Partners are lined up, I believe this will reveal the 3rd Party Fab and Main Customer at least as part of a virtuous circle of partners under the fab 2 concept. PC and AM were quite an item and they are clearly like-minded and powerful leadership team. We were assured risk was dealt with: the funding, the technology, the partners and the contracts that give a convincing story to tell and a continued path to the future.
As regards my personal impressions of content and delivery; I was very impressed by PC’s commanding performance, he appears to have gained in confidence since the EC event of a year or so ago, being frank and truthful would go down well with a British audience who would shrink from an overly slick presentation from a venture firm, which would be construed as froth and lacking substance, the team did well.
