It is also worth reconsidering an issue Rainer brought up a while ago - that in a Malthusian sense, the tech will continue to evolve to the maximum limit of each subsequent innovation. Silicon is obviously more than causing excessive demands on the power grid; it is now inhibiting innovation.
In the immediate period after the first POET tech is incorporated into smart phones and server farms, yes, there will be measurable power savings. But innovation and proliferation will push the tech quickly back to the boundaries of each and every sphere it affects.
Perhaps we'll be back to daily charging of our phones, because we will be using them even more than before and driving additional features that POET made possible... Same with server farms: perhaps the cost of processing a megabyte of data will drop precipitously thanks to POET, but there will be many more of these server farms, each handling more capacity than would have been possible via silicon.
