Albany computer chip consortium to host research, technology conference in May

SEMATECH, a consortium of computer chip makers and suppliers, will host a conference to discuss strategies to make semiconductor manufacturing more environmentally friendly and cost effective.
The two-day event starts May 13 at 7 a.m. at the Saratoga Hilton on Broadway in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Industry experts will discuss a range of topics including surface cleaning challenges, the effect of surface preparation on electrical/device performance, and strategies to reduce production costs and environmental impacts.

The Albany, New York-based consortium's members design and manufacture computer chips used in devices such as cell phones and calculators. Members include the world's largest contract chip maker, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp., as well as GlobalFoundries, IBM Corp., Samsung and Advanced Micro Devices.
The 2015 SEMI Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Conference, another event in Saratoga Springs this spring, will be held May 3-6 at the Saratoga Hilton and City Center.
