The $22 B paid to buy "whatsapp" has been mentioned several times here and compared to what POET might be 'worth'. An app VS a disruptive technology. It's possible the price is a result of a bidding war. One that was behind the scenes as Whatsapp was privately owned. Facebook may have wanted it anyway, but could not allow a competitor to get control of it and paid what they had to in order to get it. Looking at projected revenues the deal may eventually make economic sense, but my theory is they HAD to make sure nobody else got it and "ate their lunch". That is a comparison we can make.
