"Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik said that the Capital City of Odisha has the potential to emerge as a ‘Silicon Valley’ in the next five years and his Government is taking all possible steps to build Bhubaneswar as Number One IT Destination in the country.
Mr.Patnaik highlighted the inherent advantage of Odisha for preferred destination in IT/ITES and ESDM sector while meeting a team of foreign investors from Wistron, Taiwan and m2i international, Silicon Valley here on 25 March at the State Secretariat.
Team Members are David Shen, John Ko, Prakash Agarwal, Arif Maskatia and Sanjeev Shriya, who discussed with the Chief Minister at length.
Minister IT, Pranab prakash Das, Minister, Industries Debi Prasad Mishra, Chief Secretary, G C Pati, ACS to CM A P Padhi, Development Commissioner, U N Behera, ACS Finance R. Balakrishnan, Principal Secretary, IT, G.Srinivas, CMD, IDCO, Vishal Dev and other senior officials were also present during discussion.
Among the team members, Mr. Agarwal is a member of Industry Advisory Board of University of Illinois, Chicago, while Mr. Arif is acknowledged as a great technology contributor with his first MS-Window Pocket computer, first IBM compatible PC in 1983, first finger print secure PC, holder of 25 patents.
Mr Shriya is the Founder and Managing Director of Syscom Corporation and Smart Chip Limited. The purpose of their visit to Bubaneswar is to explore the opportunities of investment under ESDM sector in Odisha.
Chief Minister said that the Government of Odisha is very committed for creating an open environment to attract foreign investment from IT and ESDM industries and is first State in India to sign a Memorandum of Agreement to tie up with Silicon Valley, USA to attract innovative technology based industries in Odisha.
In order to promote such Investments, IT Special Economic Zones (SEZ)s are being established at Infocity and Infovalley in Bhubaneswar. Further, the Government has brought out a new industry friendly ICT Policy-2014 with a number of incentives to boost the IT/ITES and ESDM sector in odisha.
A Green Field Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) covering an area of 215 acres in Infovalley is being setup to attract investment under ESDM sector.
All the four Major IT Player Infosys, TCS, Wipro and Tech Mahindra have established their development centres at Bhubaneswar.
With all this infrastructure and resources available in the State, the Chief Minister urged upon the investors from Taiwan & Silicon Valley to invest in Odisha and participate in the development process of the State.
He assured that the Government will provide all necessary support to the Wistron & m2i for their investment in infovalley.
The team from Wistron & Silicon Valley expressed their pleasure of visiting Odisha and were impressed after their field visit to Infovalley. They appreciated the measures taken by the State Government in developing the Eco system of IT/ ESDM sector in Odisha for attracting foreign investments.
They also showed their keen interest in investment under EESDM sector in Odisha. To start with they may invest around 300 million US dollars in infovalley.
This initiation will definitely help Odisha in attracting more and more investment under ESDM sector and to generate high employment opportunity for the youths of the State, feel senior officials.
