On any Saturday you can find me at one of three places, the market, the dry cleaners, or the office.
The office is quiet and empty on a weekend, no phones, no emails, no visitors and no traffic.
You can usually find me looking through reports, answering endless email, writing, planning, adjusting projections, and shuffling through reams of paper, projects and myriad other organizational duties.
I use something styled along the lines of Japanese Keiretsu. It's A self managed team set up who have internal self governance and decision making characteristics and finger lock work with other groups of the same org structure all through the company. This enables better productivity and human happiness. The number one factor in my quality circles ? We do something extremely rare in business today.....we all "talk" to each other....we don't use endless email ( that's just for the brain trusts above me) we relate and we treat each other as good humans should. We communicate, discuss, laugh, cry, hug, and create internal happiness which lends to external happiness and a better human.
NO really Eileen .......what DOES an actual CEO do ?
Now while I can't really speak for what a PC or an AM or the new person would do in specifics to a PTK front office. I have an idea the new person coming in will provide one thing in a skill set of many that are required....quite simply that's strategic direction. Finance is handled by finance people, marketing and sales by those specialists, personnel by an HR dept. and day to day management along with the aforementioned strategic direction( aka company future) by the CEO.
Our new CEO will need a homogenized CV comprising critical industry experience, a touch in all the disciplines mentioned above, a critical thinking and structured planning segment of their past experience will come in quite handy.
They should have ability and understanding in the company processes as well as those processes extracurricular to the core of the company, say like any contracted work being done like outsourced manufacturing or research and development and especially new product development. A consensus builder and team builder, they will build and direct energies and synergies forward.
Basically a CEO's role is to build, with all their related experiences, then guide that what has been constructed into a prosperous future.
So the new POET CEO will have many, if not all of these qualities and certainly the one thing that many don't and that invariably includes me.
That's the hidden, vacuous, vague, nebulous and readily unmeasurable but explosively potentiate factor of......." Star Power" . Vince Lombardi, Wayne Gretzky, Joe DiMaggio, Michael Jordan, Walter Payton, Winston Churchill, athletes, prime ministers, presidents, and business people, leadership required in huge quantities, talent, skill sets innumerable, ability to move and motivate men, women, machines and ideas, in whole direct thrust.
Star power can come from a multitude of places, a credited discovery, a turn around of a sinking ship, a trend setter, a former employer of repute, a radical and opinionated thought process, industry kudos and respect, even charitable works. Star power can also add to or make a situation more marketable and certainly assists in raising awareness and maybe even the market cap.
The anticipation is so exciting !
