Good Morning

As I was watching a video conference last night, something of relevance dawned on me.

Its a known that the management team is shaping up for a building project. I believe a couple of people have picked up on the importance of the incoming talent and the fact that we now appear to be building a world class entity capable of providing that dynamic change required to an entire industry.

So for those of us that connect or collect dots, and like to read signs, not just the black and white signs, but the coloured ones too. I wanted to pass something along, something that I feel is relevant to these latest team additions. In my career, when an offer came along, some of the considerations were things like upward movement or mobility from the new position, job parameters, existing team personnel, product lines, salary and benefits, among a host of other considerations.

In todays industry, there are excellent opportunities for management and especially experience specific management talent. Its now a world of the priorities listed above along with signing and/or recruitment bonuses, moving expense remediation, gym memberships, luxury car allowances, luxury travel perks, luxury expense accounts, personal chefs or access to dietary options, medical coverage of virtually all and any issues, and then theres the corner office perks.

So the first question I raise is, can PTK afford to offer these ? The short answer is NO and the long answer is ....NO ! So if I am an industry leader, a highly educated, a well respected person, a specialist, upwardly mobile, with endless promotion or management potential and opportunity. WHY in the heck would I want to join a a small start up, from a foreign country (it could be said) for nothing more than a few share related perks ? When there are tons of listed "other" opportunities.

The answer(s) ?....to be part of history, to be part of a creative, blockbuster paradigm shift in an industry. To have my name attached to that history.

The second question would be is, the technology in question, is it viable ?

The second answer, YES, it is viable, YES the milestones in question....are in effect completed and passed inspection and in acceptance. YES there is involvement by a major(s), YES the POET product and the POET legacy will touch millions and effect redirection of billions. YES I want to be part of that legacy. Whether we like it or not, whether we connect or refuse to connect any and all dots, or not, whether we agree or not. These people, this talent, are here for these reasons !

The third question........why did these titans of an industry, experts in their field, well respected technology community leaders, jump from established, blue blooded, earnings historied, saleable product generating companies, to a Canadian head office based, American research based company with no apparent product, and nothing but an apparent boatload of dreams and potential ?

Go back and read the above again. I know these are the defacto answers because I live in this world everyday.

NO ONE who is smart, talented and has a healthy risk aversion........moves from secure, gainful, happy and resume fattening employment.

To a big, empty, and deep pit full of potential.....because the road to technology oblivion is paved with good intentions.

Its a done deal people.

Its only a matter of time.

Would I move from my current position for a $9 raise ? Or $9 in perks ? ...or....

NO !....but.....would I do it for the opportunity to make history ?

In a New York minute !

Have a great day all.
