Alfalight building
Alfalight designs and manufactures reliable, rugged, and efficient laser and electro-optical systems for defense and security applications. Alfalight’s products and embedded electro-optical modules include precision short-wave infrared (SWIR), near infrared (NIR), and visible lasers.
Our interdisciplinary team works closely with customers to turn needs into realizable specifications that drive the development of well-engineered designs. The resulting systems meet all requirements, are manufacturable, are thoroughly tested, and transition effectively to full production.
Alfalight is ITAR registered and entirely US-based, enabling us to deliver turnkey electro-optical systems rapidly and cost effectively.
Corporate History
Alfalight was founded in 1998 in association with the University of Wisconsin and the Reed Center for Photonics with the goal of creating innovative, high-power, high-reliability diode laser sources.
Founded – Nov 1998
First diode laser produced – May 2001
Telcordia qualification completed – Nov 2003
22 watt single emitter laser demonstrated – Jan 2006
Wavelength-Stabilized Technology (WST) introduced – Apr 2006
DARPA SHEDS program completed with world-record 71% efficiency – Jan 2007
$1.4M Army contract for 1kW laser pump source – Oct 2008
Non-Lethal Ocular Disruptor introduced – Jan 2009
10-watt handheld eye-safe infrared laser illuminator delivered – Oct 2010
Semiconductor fab spun-out to Compound Photonics; established strategic supplier partnership – Mar 2013
