I would assume that the 99 patents pending is a typo.

The patents pending figure has usually been in the 7 to 9 range although the numbers are fluid depending on the source that reports it.

That is not the most current version of the 20-F document. It's interesting to note that in the latest update to the 20-F document from April this year there are no numbers associated with the mention of patents or patents pending.
