I've always felt AMD would be a good partnership with POET to help them (AMD) gain the much needed boost to get back on their feet and give Intel a run.
Their stock has been getting annihilated lately, down another 15+% today on poor quarterly earnings.AMD are in a very hard spot in need of something major to help them turnaround. Some rumors about Microsoft potentially being interested, but who knows.
For any conspiracy theorists who always believe the markets set themselves up for the rich to get richer, makes you wonder if AMD do have some last resort, life safer agreement in the works with a company like POET. (Price getting driven down, good time to buy before a big deal announcement). They seem doomed if they don’t take a chance on something. Maybe they are considering a move like this. Though if production were a few years away, they may have to tread some water to stay afloat.
California based AMD were the former parent to GlobalFoundries, so there is much familiarity there. There could be a 3-way deal between AMD, GF, and POET. There is no news to this effect, I’m just playing up the drop in AMD’s stock price as a pressure on them to find a solid solution...or for those in the know to get in low (if that's even the case). Lots of news put out suggesting why people should scatter from AMD, and all their releases suggest plans for the long term and 3-5 year turnaround.
*Realistically, they may just get swallowed up or vanish.
Will be fun to see all the initial POET deals brought to light to see what hindsight has to say about it all. With the big guns (Ajit et al) now onboard, it seems to reason this wouldn't have been necessary unless the time was near to execute.
