Great idea, sulasailor! Yes, I'd love to go, meet those people, represent us all and hopefully learn a lot.

I think EUR 1500 or CAD 2150 should be sufficient to cover all expenses. I could set up a Kickstarter project to secure the funding. What could I provide to contributors? Early access to an article about the event? Something else? Any ideas?

I've never heard about the POET appreciation society, though. Is this something like the $70+ club? ;-)
