A key difference in this circumstance is that POET is deciding on issues with multiple parties, multiple verticles and multiple channels in parallel. These are very difficult due to the unique and new valuations that would need to be assessed and possible revisited during second or third round discussions as the many issues move along and the buyers compete with others especially if they are seeking certain special rights. POET appears to be in the drivers seat with multiple parties interested. Given the patents and transformative nature of POET technology (there isn't anything else like it - Dr T all roads lead to POET) it's good that the executives have chosen the MOU route at this point as it gives them the opportunity to refine the agreements as they progress thru these parallel discussions and select the best alternatives for each verticle.
