Poet devices will save on power consumption versus the existing electronic devices that they will replace. When a car or tool or toy is sucking battery power to produce mechanical energy (torque those tires or that drill bit, or walk those legs on a toy) the electronic/computing power is not a significant factor. However in a computer, you have a box loaded with chips. A CPU alone could be drawing 60 or 70 watts. So cutting that power and then multiplying that by a rack of servers, and then all the racks in a server farm... There is where the power savings will come into play.

Thats not to say Tesla wont need poet devices as sensors or want poet CPUs for their perfomance in the cars on-board systems. It's just that in these applications the total energy usage by computer chips is not dominant.
