Well explained, Gooch99, thanks!
Gooch99: Obviously, the short term ramifications of this are detrimental to our SP but in the long run we are in much better hands.
Definitely! We should also remember that the current share price is nothing more than the price the most recent buyer and the most recent seller agreed upon for a certain amount of shares to change hands.
This does not necessarily have much in common with a stock's intrinsic value. For revenue-generating companies we have typical metrics, like book value per share, price/earning ratio, and many more. However, since these metrics don't work for POET Technologies (yet!), most shareholders are without guidance and are unsure what POET's intrinsic value might be, leading to high volatility follows. And if in such a setting huge selling (or buying) occurs, high volatility turns to extreme volatility follows.
I would rather look at what this company has accomplished in the past years technologically, what implications these accomplishments could have on the semiconductor industry, what high-class management the company has been able to attract, and what this management is doing in order to change the foundations of electronics, to make this paradigm shift happen, and, well, to generate revenue. The conference call should give us some more insight into the latter.
