Nice imagery rob, but aren't you comparing speed to data rate? You refer to the speed of the trucks, not the amount of data they are hauling. Gbps is a measure of data volume delivered, GHz is in terms of speed - so 4 independant signals multiplexed can deliver data at 100 gbps without increasing the speed of transmission, no?
