I think your timeline is incorrect, even though a fairytale.

#1 was probably correct up until Adam Chowaniec showed up on the scene. I believe it was he who changed the direction of the ship and set the new course of development and licencing. Ajit was nowhere near OPEL when that occured, he showed up much later.
