Here´s one reason why it´s hard to find a partner. I wrote it in a post a few weeks ago:
"Semiconductor business is a long-term business, customers don´t rush in because of a cool new technology. They need solid, no-bug products to make a deal for several years."
This is as more valid as bigger the customer is. I don´t believe that the next generations of apples iphones will be poet-powered. But one day they will be.
Working prototypes are important, but I can´t think of google to change their complete hardware just because of that. They want to see it work in real life. That´s why vcsels are quite good to step in. Lots of customers: big data centers, smaller ones. I hope some of the smaller ones will have the courage to mount poet-vcsels, this shows the bigger ones the reliability and performance. Then they replace a few own units by poet-vcsels. They will be overwhelmed. This is where the avalanche will start.
