POET implements a new paradigm for lasing utilizing a new laser structure in the form of a digital opto-electronic switch (DOES). The switch has binary optical states, i.e. it has high impedance (laser off) and low impedance (laser on) digital electrical states which ensures an essentially infinite extinction ratio.

What does this mean? = It means that the signal achieved by POETs DOES is as perfect as it gets and does not require additional circuits and devices to sample and clean the signal. It means that the speed of transmission can be ramped without error. It means that the lowest amount of energy can be used to transfer data because the smallest amount of energy to generate a signal is required no noise just the signal pulse (no power penalty).

=========================
How much of packet design involves time spent verifying that the data packet was delivered correctly, and could POET's technology allow a new paradigm of data transfer such that packet design itself could become more efficient BECAUSE of POET's more reliable hardware?
In other words, would POET's hardware make possible the removal of certain code from software that has been there all along because of the legacy deficiencies of non-optical hardware?
