Message: Question: Understanding 6 inch wafer and VCSELs

It difficult for a non-technical person to understand what it is Poet is doing, and where they are positioned in actually producing a chip for sale. We know from the C.C. that we have just started in the Fab process and there is a long way to go, but with important milestone along the way.

From what I have read, a single 6 inch wafer can lead to the production many thousands of VCSELs? Does anyone have any information as to how many wafers are being produced and grown by ANADIGICS for Poet? How many VCSELs? I'm also under the impression that ANADIGICS is a small company, and therefore has a very small capacity? Some here have suggested that we are producing "demonstration" chips, requiring a future contract with bigger FAB company.

If there is anyone who can and cares to answer these questions, or expand or correct them, would be appreciated.
