SMF vs MMF mode, a short 2 pages read at:

Bottom line, for future needs, SMF should be the choice according to this co... future will tell

POET's VCSEL (IF SUCESSUFULLY BROUGHT TO COMMERCIALIZATION, no pun intended) will be :

SMF compatible
Will be smaller (form factor) than any silicon photonic packaged transceivers (reducing the BOM) known as of today
and will be way less power-hungry (which means less heat and I really hope you get that).
