Message: Datacenter - the cabling question

-we have an integrated device. so every component of an traditional vcsel, detector amplifier drivercircuit and laser is integrated. so we don t need to produce single components and there s no need to assemble them. that itself reduces (manufacturing) cost.

-next painpoint is reduction of energy consumption. that ll reduce cost per transferrred bit in a datacenter.

-our integrated laser is a digital device. this has been mentioned as the holy grail for photonic integration.

-the POET VCSEL can operate in single mode fiber, other vcsel only operate in multimodefiber and aren t able to reach the desired distances like SiP devices can (in single mode f)

Since the POET VCSEL is single mode, it is further expected that using the POET VCSEL with SMF will allow a data rate of 25Gbps per channel up to 500m. This solution would provide a very attractive single chip alternative to existing SiP approaches.
