"Performance at Future Speed
Only recently have manufacturers begun to create and deploy physical appliances that are capable of supporting 100G. The challenge for 2018 is to successfully virtualize these physical-appliance solutions and still maintain the same performance and reliability. Fortunately, the vast majority of appliances are already based on the same standard server platforms forming the infrastructure basis for NFV, and 100G appliances are no exception. The issue is ensuring that the right data input/output capacity is available to handle 100G speeds and data volumes when making the transition to NFV infrastructures.
The survey data makes it clear that NEPs and CSPs are gearing up for the 100G era. They still need and value traditional hardware appliances while also embracing virtual appliances. Networks are being bombarded with data at higher speeds than ever, and providers are preparing now with a priority list of virtual network functions. With a tipping point just over two years away, it remains to be seen how providers will overcome current performance challenges."
Interesting, a tipping point in 2 years...
