TAIPEI (Reuters) - Apple Inc supplier Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC) on Thursday said it would raise capital expenditure by at least 10 percent from 2015's four-year low, partly driven by growth in the global smartphone market.

The world's biggest contract chipmaker estimated 2016 capex of $9 billion to $10 billion and said it expects global smartphone shipments to expand 8 percent.

Demand for high-end smartphones has started the year weak, while in other segments there are already signs of upward demand momentum in emerging markets including China, the world's biggest for smartphones, TSMC said.

For you business people out there.

How is it when markets are down and doom is the architect of our fear and gloom is the building material, investment still continues in many sectors ? I wonder does the man or woman in the corner shop to the CEO in the corner office, stop, drop and roll when the news does not fit their plan ? Not really, and not in many, many cases. They adjust, or to use a US Marine phrase...."adapt, improvise , overcome". Something tells me when the good Doctor Taylor hit a roadblock, he did just so.

Which brings to mind the question of "what are they thinking".

Of course, "they", being our management team. Well, without rumour, innuendo or even speculation I can emphatically state..."they are building a business". Right under our noses, right behind the wall, in behind the curtain, and right in front of our faces, the brilliance of our management is creating history. Even if we can't see it being done. Its BEING DONE.

So "WHEN" and not "IF" its ready to be revealed, and "WHEN" and not "IF" its ground breaking and disruptive capabilities are revealed, ........the wait, the pain, the stretched temperment and extreme patience will be well worth it, ok actually, MORE THAN well worth it.
