The Technology Roadmap Advisory Board (TRAB)

I believe we are beginning to see the effects of the TRAB in the choice of the next verticals to be engaged. I very much like the term SV used: 'optical engines'. One can imagine the strap line

'Built to deliver the power of light at near the competitive price points of copper, using 'POET’s platform designed to be capable of significant improvements in energy efficiency, component cost and size.'

Take the Apple watch, which to my mind is limited in function by its small screen, unless that is it can project a screen with a touchable user interface, such as we have already seen demonstrated in another Smart Phone application in a link posted here. The 'ubiquitous' nature of watch wearing and the vanity/style implications will always, to my mind, make the wrist watch a desirable object to wear, but then, the limited functionality of current versions is not a selling point. Its only when the functionality of such a watch matches or exceeds smart phones will it sell. One wonders if this is where the Apple watch is heading and if POET has a part in it.

I can imagine laying my left watch hand on a table then controlling the functions of the watch or typing using my right hand on a projected screen, reverse this for lefties. Furthermore, the tiny form factor achievable from a monolithically integrated POET chip will allow additional functionality on such a watch, say: connecting health metrics sensed through one's wrists. Reading foreign words and presenting them in English, Navigation, Diary, Finding your missing possessions marked with their own transmitters, Infra Red torch navigation at night or fog or smoke, light pointers for briefing, security system checks, payment systems at tolls/parking /transport etc., etc.

Regardless of my above nonsense, clearly the TRAB is there to guide PTI direction. But given the presence of Tony Blevins one wonders if this is not uniquely an Apple interphase, its hard to imagine other giants from Google say sitting on the same board. Therefore I think the TRAB is in fact an Apple interphase only at present and that much of the sensing initiatives alluded to in the CC relate to Apple. Conjecture yes but beginning to look highly likely.
