Another interesting point made by Katharine is in regards to what she calls the "Shorter Deployment Lifetime" (<5 years) of this new optical interconnect startegy at about the 7:52 mark of the video. (She stresses that this doesnt mean less quality, just utilizing a product for a shorter timeframe/lifetime.)

I wonder if she may be speaking to the two options for the Poet Solution as laid out in the Poet Whitepaper.

"In the short term, lasing is architected to be out-of-plane and the laser solution is a VCSEL. However, in the medium term and as part of the Poet Roadmap, lasing can co-exist both in-plane and out-of-plane simumltaneously."
