Re: "From my quick search I understood there was approximately 500K data centres worldwide. That represents a staggering 25 trillion in savings....PER YEAR (assuming they would all average 50m in savings)."
This is huge and your math checks out, however I am very confused by something. I have been looking at the total global electricity costs of data centers and the numbers seem off, so I assume I am missing something.
For example, according to this reference:
http://www.datacenterdynamics.com/power-cooling/global-data-center-power-market-growing-at-over-10-percent-annually/94824.fullarticle
The global cost for power for data cneters was 12.3 billion in 2015 and projected to be 20.44 billion in 2020. If for example you save on average $50 million per data center, then 12.3 billion dollars represents 246 amounts of 50 million, and of course the entire power is not saved. So, according to these numbers, this means there are less than 246 data centers in the world, which of course is wrong.
Any ideas on what I am missing?? TIA!!!
