Wake,

The article you quote to my mind is effectively a ringing endorsement of PTI's strategy. What the new consortium is proposing is mirroring what is currently being executed by PTI management and enhanced by their recent acquisitions.

As amateurs assessing the implications of technical articles tends to generate a sense of anxiety. Several other recent posts include articles quoted of this nature. Did not SV say that we should see the competition as evidence that we are tackling the right problems. Also, when AM says execute, execute, execute he is showing us that he knows that PTI has a window of opportunity with POET technology and that time is of an essence.

When we read articles about other photonic initiatives and inventions we can draw comfort in the fact that POET technology has now moved from the lab to fab. Timing is everything and what we must recognise is that POET is spearheading the photonics charge and that such consortiums as DIMENSION are only now coming to terms with the need for the change to photonic solutions in IC. Yes other labs and initiatives are focussed on solving the same concerns, yes they are going to shout their laudable efforts but the truth is that POET has the advantage of timing.

Don't let us fear competition or cloud our judgement of the value proposition POET presents . Let us trust the judgement of the highly qualified management that were attracted to the genius of GT's invention and the trust they place, that it represents a truly workable tested GaAs mass manufacturing process. What is more is that the process is currently being implemented as sample products. Trust also that the recent acquisition of BB and DenseLight are a neat entre into the world of other material combinations than GaAs that are in that area of the periodic table of elements, which will now allow PTI to compete in the brave new world of developing photonic products.

Investing in this 'bleeding edge of technology' has its risks and needs managerial acumen and courage to counter those risks as well as shareholder nerve, and dare I say patience (far more than I imagined would be necessary) but lets not be fearful in the face of the enemy and let's help by giving Management the tools of options they have requested to implement their plans. Question the need at the AGM by all means but let us not deter their momentum.

Sula
