How long can important news be delayed, legally. News which can have a big impact on the stock price, whether up or down? Such as a successful VCSEL? Or a NRE?

On the other hand, if the news is inconclusive, such as tweaking the VCSEL is still on going, I can see the reason for silence on that subject.
