Another thing Baba because this stuff happens doesn't make right. And why do I get the feeling that you condone these actions and perhaps even enjoy it....???"
Turr, good post. But it's not required, and I don't think Poet should do things differently just because we'd all like them to. The underwriters sit with the issuer (POET) and tell them what they can do (assuming it's a firm underwriting). Then POET either takes it or leaves it. The underwriters take a lot of factors into account in coming up with the price they will pay, and one of the big ones is making their buyer clients happy, so there's a conflict there, no doubt. Is it perfect? Certainly far from it. But think about no pre-announcement and then all of a sudden they announce they've done a public offering and it's been all taken up at such and such a price - lots of angst and turmoil would follow that as well.
Do I condone it? Let's just say I accept it. Do I enjoy it? No, wish they didn't have to raise any money, but if they need the money, then I'm okay with it. Do I enjoy trying to get people ready for what I thought right out of the box would be a disappointment to shareholders - yes, otherwise I wouldn't have posted it. That's where you got the sense that I "enjoy it" and I say well done, Turr!!
