The fact that they were able to get exceptional performance from the detector very early at Wavetek tells us that they know what they are doing.

Yes, that was GREAT! Problem is, that same successful epitaxial formula didn't work for the transmit part. And further, if they change the formula, make it lase - will it then work for the receiver?
