Thanks go to FJ for reminding us of GT'S vsion for POET:
'Geoff Taylor’s vision of the POET platform being utilized to build very high performance processors with optical optical clock distribution. And taking that beyond this to POET at 10nm implementation of the single electron transistor and quantum computing at minimal power requirements in ambient environment.'
This vision sustained the hope of investors until the strategy for PTI was pivoted in Sep 15 to Commercialisation of POET by selling active opical cables to the boom expected at Data Centres.
This pivot in company thinking was a realistic and necessary step towards building the capacity to grow PTI. But GT's vision for me remains the reason I was so excited by the prospect of what PTI could become, that I chose to risk a very small fortune, but nevertheless all I had at the time, to be part of a technological revolution.
The truth is, only a significantly resourced mega company with the burning desire to step up to a leading technological position in IC devlopment would the have the means to develop a POET processor with optical distribution.
It remains intriguing that sufficient evidence exists that such a company was setting technical tests and hurdles for PTI in the first two quarters of 2015 and are subsequenty expanding photonics R&D.
'Hope Springs Eternal'-mad or bad but certainly not regretfully and still excited by that vision.
