Message: How and When will Fiber Finally Kill Copper Cable Interconnects in the Data Center

*Interesting short comment from Mark Lukowitz on todays "Rump Session" at OFC.

OFC Rump Session on Sub $0.25/Gbps Optics; How and When will Fiber Finally Kill Copper Cable Interconnects in the Data Center:

"One could only come to the extraordinary conclusion, especially at shorter lengths, that copper continues to be the high volume & low-cost leader. When it came to new optical solutions being touted by the “provocateurs,” which included 200G, nx100G (up to 800G), and silicon photonics, the votes in the room tended to favor that they reflected a higher performance type of argument rather than a truly low-cost solution." https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6250383260740780032/https://www.linkedin.com/hp/update/6250383260740780032https://www.linkedin.com/hp/update/6250383260740780032

That session reinforces that there is a rather substantial "window of opportunity" for Poet's high performance/low-cost solution and if they want to get orders to commercialize their AOC product in 2018, Poet needs to get the Prototypes done very "soon".
