When the Shelton Group were engaged by PTI we gained the notion that POET was approaching an 'inflection point'. This I understand to be a point on a graph when the direction of the line trace changes significantly. 'Up and to the right' is what we hoped for, or rather were groomed to expect. That particular aspiration has received some hard knocks in the later half of 2016 as the harsh reality of running a Venture Capital firm bit home hard, confirming that anyone expecting a smooth passage to personal wealth has had a bitter learning experience.
I believe we should take comfort in the idea of an inflection point still lies ahead, but when you may well ask. We appear to be at the start if the commercialisation phase that is beyond lab to fab, which has to be all about products. Is this the Inflection Point and will the next announcement to be the big reveal of POET products?
The PIC in Brussels on the 7th & 8th of March 2017 is shaping up to be the first real possibility for a public reveal in front of ones peers. I expect management will have planned a moment in time when it wants to reveal it's products. and the manner of doing so. I would judge that their decision to do so would be at such a prestigious venue as the PIC, when they appear in front many of the big hitters in the OIC industry, I assume that this would only happen if they could fully establish the viability of POET technology and its products VCSEL integration included. The availability of prototypes would also be key to a proper launch of Poet products.
This moment has promise. The heralding on this occasion has been of a different order given what SV has already published for PIC. The News Releases are a mandatory Company duty and I feel we will hear more before the PIC. That said I feel this will be a technical reveal only and not related to any deals or partnerships, this will come later. The timing of the appointment of a new Executive Chairman is also an opportune in that he will want to put a very positive slant on the Commercialisation of POET at his inauguration as Executive Chairman to give him the impetus to propel the company forward.
This is all very positive, the Inflection point may well be upon us but we need to be clear that technical reveals have not created SP movement in the past I therefore wonder to what extent this opportunity will be backed by the sort of PR plan we imagined Shelton would deliver as we approach POET'S inflection point, we certainly need something different to break out of the rut we've been in. It certainly needs a different order of management to achieve this and the recent appointments and changes I feel auger well in this respect.
For the present I remain expectantly gleeful of hearing about technical advances that underlies my interest in POET and justifies the risk of investing in PTK. We are undoubtedly living in interesting times.
