Here's an interesting application for infra red lasers and detectors, from: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-4324694/End-wifi-woes-Infrared-100-times-faster.html
Wireless networks crafted from rays of infrared light could soon allow you to connect to the internet 100 times faster than current systems, according to researchers at Eindhoven University of Technology.
I don't know if this is in the wave length vicinity that poet is experimenting in, or if it is at all applicable to what Poet is trying to do, but photonics and lasers are definitely in our future. Hopefully Poet will survive to be part of it.
Many companies are already developing different aspects and applications of photonics. https://www.google.ca/search?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=laster+wifi&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gfe_rd=cr&ei=GUPNWJipKsve8AeM-5HYCA#q=laser+wifi&channel=fs&tbm=nws&*
