I came across this information and it is not likely anything new to many on the board but it did get me thinking about the Poet VCSEL
http://pragmaticmarketing.com/resources/non-recurring-engineering
My understanding of the VCSEL is that it remains somewhat of a "commodity" in the sense that VCSEL's already exist and are in the marketplace. What we do know is that the Poet VCSEL has certain characteristics that provide significant cost and functionality advantages which are deemed to be somewhat disruptive.
Using the information in the article noted above, is it possible that we not see any NRE Revenue from the Poet VCSEL but rather we see immediate market penetration once a prospective customer and the rest of the market is able to demonstrate its use in their own environment?
If we believe that it is somewhat of a commodity then any further significant or material engineering may not necessarily be required?
Understand I'm not trying to make a statement but rather, I'm posing it to the board and to those who may have first hand knowledge of NRE Revenue and the applicability specific to the Poet VCSEL.
thx
