It is pleasing to see another industry veteran of Don's calibre join POET.  What I also find interesting is the timing of the news.  This has been released 5 days before the SPIE conference in San Fran. 

If we look back 1 year, POET attended the SPIE Conference West and 15 days before, announced key appointments:

My point is that POET clearly put an emphasis on raising their profile during this event in 2017 and I for one believe they will do the same this year.  I think this could be an exciting week ahead and am looking forward to some SPIE Ja Vu!
