I was really surprised to see POET on the PIC International short list for the Device Design and Packaging Award. From any of the companies I have looked at associated with these awards those companies have products in the market. This to me is an indication that POET is very close to meeting that check mark.
So why was POET on the short list? The reason I believe they made the short list is because industry is beginning to recognize the dielectric optical interposer platform as a breakthrough.
Lowest cost solution. Test and assembly at wafer scale maximizing yield.
Enables the mixing and matching of the active optical devices produced on the best material sets without compromising efficiency.
Thermal management requirements (cost and power) are minimized by athermal design and topology of the boundary between electrical optical domains.
Scalable while maintaining the smallest footprint.
Industry awareness…finalist in Device Design and Packaging Award
Healthy cash position.
Supported by the Singapore government.
Ability to maintain full control over the process. No technology transfer removing the threat of IP theft.
Canadian Company not restricted by protectionism.
Potential for many applications with expanding markets.
Smart people in place who can get the job done.
