Rainer, that very phrase caught my eye, too.

"as we increase the number of engagements with potential strategic partners and customers."

But, unlike you, I did not like it so much.  It really sounds like classic "securities speak."  If the word "potential" was not there, the meaning would be clear.  Or, if the word "engagements" were replaced with "negotiations" or "meetings," again, I could understand it clearly.
